New Years Eve 1987 - Where Were You?

What were you doing 20 years ago on New Years Eve 1987?

I believe I was living in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, working for Domino’s Pizza, teasing my Jon Bon Jovi mullet, listening to the new Def Leppard album (Hysteria), pining over a girl named Anne (who I worked with at Domino’s) and getting ready to go and out see the new movie Three Men and a Baby with some friends!  Oh my…

Rolling Stone: Top 100 Songs of 2007

Rolling StoneWe’re a sucker for Top 10 lists, so when we see a Top 100 list we just can’t help ourselves. Recently, Rolling Stone Magazine released their Best Songs of 2007 list. Now, honestly, I think we’ve maybe heard about 20% of the songs on the list, but it’s still interesting to look through none the less. Another nice feature is that for most of the songs you have the option to listen to pretty much everyone one of the songs and see a number of the music videos as well.

Not to be left behind, MTV also has their Best Songs of 2007. They rank their top 33 songs of 2007.

Color us excited: Indiana Jones 4 Movie Poster Unveiled

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Movie Poster There is some disagreement on this matter here at Jenkat, but the majority of us (TC excluded) are pretty excited for the new Indiana Jones movie. The new movie, titled Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, is scheduled for release on May 22nd, 2008. Sure, Harrison Ford is sixty something, but he’s still looking good, although the verdict is still out on his earrings… anyways… Today, they released the first movie poster.

What we’re inferring from the poster is that they’re not trying to reinvent the wheel with the movie. If you look at this posting on FirstShowing.net (scroll down a little bit) you’ll see that the new movie poster is very similar to the previous one. We take this as a good thing.

The USA Today has some more tidbits on the movie. Now, these are hardly spoilers, but if you don’t want to read any inside info about the movie you may want to skip over this bit.

When last we saw Indy, he was riding off into the sunset in 1989’s The Last Crusade, set in 1938 near the start of World War II. The new movie, due this spring, is set at the height of the Cold War in 1957, so the character has aged in real time — 19 years.

The Nazis are no longer Indy’s chief foe — he’s racing for the Crystal Skull against operatives from the Soviet Union, including Oscar winner Cate Blanchett as the seductive Agent Spalko. “Indy always has a love-hate relationship with every woman he ever comes in contact with,” Marshall says.

So that’s that. I’ve got May 22nd circled on the calendar. Thankfully, the Sex and the City movie doesn’t come out until May 30th, so there will be no quarreling over which movie to see first ;)

The Santa Express Game

Jenkat Games today announced the release of The Santa Express in time to spread some holiday cheer among fans of online arcade-style games. The Santa Express is a free online casual game where players help Santa with his Christmas deliveries.News Image

As the classic Christmas song goes, Santa “knows if you’ve been bad or good.” This Christmas, Santa will make his deliveries of presents for good little boys and girls and lumps of coal for naughty children with the help of The Santa Express - his souped-up sleigh fully-equipped with turbo boosters to help him through the Christmas rush.

“The holidays are when we all get to be kids again and enjoy the lighter side of life,” said Malcolm Michaels, co-founder of Jenkat Media. “The Santa Express is a free online game where players of all ages can get into the Christmas spirit, whether during a short work break or playing as a family. Because The Santa Express can be played online for free, players can take a little bit of holiday cheer with them no matter where they go.”

In addition to their latest casual free online game in The Santa Express, Jenkat offers a number of downloadable games for purchase, including the recently-released Finders Keepers (an underwater, arcade-style, treasure-hunting game) as holiday gift ideas for casual gamers.

Finders Keepers Official Announcement

Finders KeepersJenkat Games has announced the release of Finders Keepers (http://www.jenkatgames.com/download/Finders-Keepers/), an underwater arcade-style game.

Finders Keepers features Floyd Finders and his trusty, one-eyed sidekick, Goldie the Cat, who collect treasure, schools of fish, holiday-themed items and special trinkets. Along the way, you will meet friends that can offer you help — for a price. Watch out for adversaries, like pirates, ghosts and mythical creatures that will challenge you as you search through enchanted waters. Using a trap line that slowly swings back and forth like a pendulum, gamers are awarded money for each unique item that is reeled in. Finders Keepers takes gamers through hundreds of fun-filled levels, including the North Pole, Northern Lights, Bahamas, Deadman’s Cay, Above Titantic, Inside Titanic and the hidden city of Atlantis, all in hopes of retrieving the coveted treasures.

“There are very few casual games on the market today that appeal to both parents and grandparents, as well as their young children, so we felt a game like Finders Keepers would be the perfect kid-friendly game for the entire family,” said Malcolm Michaels, Co-Founder of Jenkat. “We became inspired by the tremendous success of other family-friendly, hit games that we have created. With Finders Keepers, we wanted to build the first in a series of next-generation game titles that utilize a unique game mechanic that goes beyond the traditional hidden object and time management genres so prevalent today.”

The downloadable PC and online versions of Finders Keepers are available now at Jenkat Games (http://www.jenkatgames.com/online/). Gamers can play a quick game or involve themselves for hours with three different play modes, including “Finders” (Story Mode), “Keepers” (Score Attack) and “Two-Player.” Annually, Jenkat Games plans to release a new game chronicling the new adventures of the main character, Floyd Finders.

The First Sex and the City Movie Trailer

Moviefone (of all places) just released the first official Sex and the City movie trailer. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can view it on Moviefone’s site.

Looks like everyone is back for the movie, including Big. The rumors we’ve heard indicate that they just finished up filming within the last week or two. We had also originally heard a release date of Summer 2008, so it looks like they might have bumped it up to May 2008 to put it up against all the other Memorial Day movies (like the fourth installment of Indiana Jones! Harrison Ford + Steven Spielberg + George Lucas, has that combo ever gone wrong?).

Journey Announces New Lead Singer

Journey, one of the cornerstones of 80’s (lite) rock, has announced a new lead singer.  You’ll remember that Steve Perry and Journey parted ways in the 90’s, and the band then found a vocal clone of Perry in Steve Augeri.  Unfortunately, Augeri had to leave the band in 2006 due to medical reasons.  He was temporarily replaced by Jeff Scott Solo, but Journey soon realized that wasn’t the correct decision.  Now the band has hired Arnel Pineda.

Who says dreams can’t come true?  Pineda has fronted a cover band called The Zoo which has been doing Journey, Survivor and Bon Jovi songs over the past several years.  It seems that Journey guitarist Neal Schon came across some of the bands performances on YouTube.  The rest is history.

My take on this as I’ve become pretty big fan of Journey over the last couple years:  Pineda seems to have a good stage presence and a very good voice that seems suited for classic Journey songs.  He’s from the Phillipines and his accent seems to overwhelm certain parts of his singing sometimes, but I think working with a vocal coach can correct that issue.  All in all, I’m looking forward to the new Journey album and tour, due in 2008.

Wham, Bam, Thank You Wham!

I don’t know about you, but the holidays make me wax nostalgic.  Since TC is out with the flu - and can’t cringe once I post this - I am going to indulge my craving for 80’s Christmas music.

I will admit my tastes are cheesey, if you’ll admit George Michael has a heck of a voice.  Not to mention a mullet as frosty as the sparkling winter snow!  ;)   Happy holidays!
