Cafe Mahjongg For Free

Cafe MahjonggFor those who may not be aware, I wanted to let our blog readers know that Jenkat Games is now offering a free download of our first game, Cafe Mahjongg!  We are testing a new idea as a method of giving away full download games for free, and we welcome you to give the game a try.  The best part?  This verison of the game is not a trial version, but an UNLIMITED PLAY, FULL VERSION of the game.  If you are someone who enjoys relaxing with a warm mocha beverage while taking a break to play your favorite game (as I do) then I think you’ll find this game to be a great way to “chill”.  Heck, if you want to play at work, go ahead… I promise I won’t tell.  :)

Click here for more information about the game, and a link to download your FREE FULL VERSION of Cafe Mahjongg.

Yummy Drink Factory Mini-Review

Given my love of all things coffee and chocolatey, I could not resist downloading Yummy Drink Factory.  The description of the game sounded a little reminiscent of the famous Diner Dash time management games, and the look of the game art appealed to me.

First, the not-so-good:  The characters in the story are rather obnoxious.  How can I feel motivated to play well and cheer myself on, if I am playing in the position of the main character — who happens to be very cold-hearted and rude?  I also am not a fan of having to click “Next” to read sentence after sentence of rather drab dialogue between the characters.  I prefer to get the gist of the story all at once.  I am a working woman, after all.  ;)

On the other hand:  The game art is very pleasing to the eye — wonderful, vibrant colors and Yummy Drink Factoryscenery.  Since I am pretty awful at time management games, the tutorials were appreciated, and I was glad that the recipes were so simple from the start.  The difficulty seems to increase very gradually, so I was able to keep up.  I also appreciated the option to end the level once the daily goal is reached, as some levels (as true with any game) aren’t as fun as others.  Best of all, I loved the “coffee shop” setting of the game with a fantasy twist — and the perspective of the camera viewing only the counter, materials and customers is refreshing when compared to the old model of actually showing the main character move about the scene.

Overall I would recommend giving this game a play, especially if you are a fan of time management-meets-memory games.  Official Jovi scale — I’d give it a 7 out of 10.

Laura Jones and the Gates of Good & Evil Download

Laura Jones and the Gates of Good & Evil Game DownloadDr. Jones?  Famous exlporer?  I think George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford gonna sue somebody! :)

So our friends at NevoSoft have released their new game and Jenkat is one of the first to feature it.  Laura Jones and the Gates of Good & Evil kind of feels a little like Indiana Jones meets Tomb Raider (Lara Craft).  In fact, if you combine Lara Croft and Indiana Jones, you might get La(u)ra Jones.  Interesting.

Would you have guessed that Laura Jones would be anything but a hidden-object game, plus it has a cool name like “the Gates of Good & Evil” - Snazzy.

Women’s Murder Club Game

Women's Murder Club Game DownloadJames Patterson is a busy guy these days.  Not only is he the creator of Women’s Murder Club on ABC, he has also dipped his name into the casual gaming world with the new Women’s Murder Club - Death In Scarlet.

I personally don’t know too much about James Patterson, just that he’s been around forever, so he must be a popular writer.  I’ve seen parts of Kiss The Girls, one of his books that became a movie and starred Morgan Freeman.

Working the causual games industry, I know a lot of companies have been shy about putting the word “murder” into the title of their game name.  Looks like we’ve broken through that barrier.

Give Women’s Murder Club a try - It looks like its very popular with other Jenkat’r’s!

The Amazing Brain Train Game

The Amazing Brain Train Download GameOur friends at Grubby Games, famous for developing games that your kids and grandkids will love, have just released a brand new game called The Amazing Brain Train.  The good thing about the casual games sector is that most of the games are rated PG when it comes to content.   Making a game that’s not only G rated, but also appealing to kids and adults is very hard, but some companies have pulled that off.  I like to think we did that with Finders Keepers, but I digress.

As for The Amazing Brain Train, it’s definitely a game that you can play with your kids.  I played the game with my eight-year-old niece and she loved it.  Check it out when you want to spend some quality time with the kids - not only will they love the game, they’ll love that you’re playing it with them.

Mystery P.I. - The Vegas Heist Download

Mystery P.I. - The Vegas Heist Download GameOur friends at PopCap Games have just released Mystery P.I. - The Vegas Heist and Jenkat Games is now featuring the game.  I remember watching the movie Swingers, that stars Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, and while they’re walking through a casino in Vegas, they comment to each other that filmmakers are nuts to try and film inside a casino.   I found that funny and if you don’t know, casino’s do not allow any kind of cameras inside their doors.

As a result, not too many movies and games are set in casinos.  However, Mystery P.I. - The Vegas Heist is breaks the mold.  In fact, I believe this is only the 2nd game in the casual game world to be set in Vegas.  The first is a game near and dear to my heart - Gold Miner: Vegas.  GMV is a game that I developed while at MySpace/Fox.  Since then, the assets for GMV have been sold off to another company.  And when it all comes down, I think I like Finders Keepers more now.

Help Jovi Progress In Tumblebugs 2

Happy Monday, Kats!

tumblebugs2.gifI just downloaded Tumblebugs 2 over the weekend, and I am enjoying it verily!  I loved playing the original online version of Tumblebugs at my former place of employment, and always hoped for a sequel.  I had actually given up that hope long ago, as the original Tumblebugs was released back in 2005!

For anyone else that has given the game a try - is it just me, or is the first level really hard?  I guess I need to investigate further to see if there has been some new gameplay element added to the new version that I’ve missed - something required to pass the level that I am neglecting.  After several tries, I am struggling… and it is bugging me out.  Pun intended.  ;)

The graphics of the game seem to be just as good as the original - not really better, but definitely on par.  I am learning that I shouldn’t play in full screen mode, because seeing the bugs rotate on a fairly large widescreen monitor is making me queasy!  Playing in window mode seems to solve that for me.

All in all, this very Zuma-esque game seems pretty fun, and worth a try.  And, if you have any hints for me - please comment below.  I stink at this game, and I was a semi-wiz when I played the original.  Guess I need more practice.

Airport Mania Download Game

Airport Mania Download GameOur friends at Reflexive have just finished a new casual game called Airport Mania: First Flight, and Jenkat couldn’t be any happier to be one of the first places on the Internet to distribute this wonderful and cute game.

The great thing about a fun game is that it has the chance to crossover and be successful with us normal casual game players, but also with young people including kids - like my niece.  She’s only eight, but I’ll tell you this:  She loves Airport Mania.  It’s like a Pixar movie - Everyone can appreciate it.

This week take some time to download the play Airport Mania.  I promise you this, if the rest of the family sees you playing it, you’re going to have  crowd around you.  :)

The Count of Monte Cristo Download Game

The Count of Monte Cristo Download GameAnother new hidden object today at Jenkat Games inspired by a classic novel from Alexander Dumas called The Count of Monte Cristo.  I’ve never read the Count of Monte Cristo, but I remember the mention of it in The Shawshank Redemption when the guys are sorting books in the new library.  We won’t mention how Heywood (William Sadler) mispronounces Alexander Dumas’ name before he’s corrected by Andy (Tim Robbins).  :)

If classic stories and hidden objects are your sweet spot, then The Count of Monte Cristo might be the perfect game for you.  I know I’ve always been a sucker for a good story and there might not be any better than The Count of Monte Cristo.  Then again, how about a Shawshank Redemption game?

Age of Emeralds Download Game

Age of Emeralds Download GameAnother new casual game today at Jenkat.  This time its a puzzle game and overall a fun game.  Age of Emeralds would have been a great game for St. Patricks Day.  You just have to love the emerald as a jewel, right?  I must confess, I do.  If there was ever a perfect color, the emerald might be that color.  My two cents.  :)

Not only is Age of Emeralds a puzzle game, it also allows you to build your own community.  While its not Sim City or anything, it’s a pretty fun concept.  It’s hump day, so make some time to give the game a try.
