R.I.P. Kevin DuBrow
Today reports have surfaced announcing the death of Kevin DuBrow - not exactly a household name, but in my book, definitely an icon of 80’s hard rock.
DuBrow was the charismatic, curly coiffed frontman for the group Quiet Riot, best known for hard rock hits like “Cum On Feel The Noize”, “Bang Your Head (Metal Health)” and “Mama We’re All Crazee Now”. He was reportedly found by friends in his Las Vegas home yesterday, and at this time no cause of death has been released. Sadly, DuBrow was only 52 years old.
Although my personal preferences tend to lean toward the more melodic, poppy side of rock, I had great respect for and was a fan of Quiet Riot. I was given my first Walkman cassette player in junior high school, and Quiet Riot’s “Metal Health” album was the first cassette I ever listened to on that Walkman. Great stuff for a rebelious young girl of a ‘jukebox generation’.
As another little piece of my youth slips away, I send my condolances to the fans, friends and family of Kevin DuBrow - he will be missed. In memoriam, here is a little something for the “wild and the young”… is that Wink Martindale I spy?
